Dysport®

Get Ready for a New Treatment for Wrinkles.  Go to the Physicians with the Most Experience.

As part of our many clinical studies, Aesthetic Solutions has spent the past 4 years participating in several of the pivotal clinical trials for the FDA and continue to participate in clinical trials evaluating the long-term safety and efficacy of Dysport™.  Dysport™ is only the second drug for the treatment of wrinkles to be approved by the FDA.  Dr. Cox also participated in Phase III post approval clinical trials for Botox and has extensive experience injecting both botulinum toxins prior to the products availability to other physicians.

What is Dysport™?
Dysport™, a botulinum toxin, similar to Botox® was approved by the FDA in April 2009 for the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines and is now available at Aesthetic Solutions.  Dysport™ is a protein extracted from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The protein was initially used for the treatment of motor disorders and various kinds of involuntary muscular spasms, including cerebral palsy. It was further developed to treat a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders, for which it is licensed in over 60 countries.

What does Dysport™ do?
Dysport™ is used to smooth and relax the muscles that cause facial lines and creases.  As you get older, your skin loses its elasticity. Those lines deepen, becoming permanently etched in and cause the appearance of a stern, unhappy, or tired look.   Dysport™ is injected directly into the overactive muscles, relaxing the muscles for 3 – 6 months.  This relaxation of hyperfunctional muscles smoothes out lines and creases, restoring a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face.

What is the difference between Dysport™ and Botox Cosmetic®?
Both botulinum toxin products, Botox® and Dysport™, help reduce wrinkles by relaxing overactive muscles but have completely different formulations that are not interchangeable.  There are distinct dosing differences and although both are measured in units, the number of units injected is not comparable when treating the same areas to get the same result.  Our experienced physicians sometimes prefer one product over the other in certain facial areas. This is due to differences in the onset of action and smoothing out effect. Dysport™  seems to have a faster onset and has a greater “field” while Botox® tends to remain more localized, allowing for greater precision and predictability in the treated area, but possibly requiring more injections for a complete treatment. Our physicians at Aesthetic Solutions have worked with both products and will offer both treatments to our patients.

What is the cost of Dysport™?
Both Dysport™ and Botox® injections are measured and charged by the number of units used.  Our experienced physicians will customize your treatment to provide the best effect for your specific muscles.  Generally you can expect the fee for the area between the eyes to be between $300 - $375.

Why is Injector selection More Important than Ever?
Unlike most physicians who have not administered the product prior to FDA approval, Dr. Cox and Dr. Soderberg have had 4 years of experience injecting Dysport™ as part of the clinical trials and are currently two of the largest injectors of Botox® in the country.  Injectables should be administered only by physicians who have an excellent understanding of the muscles and expressions of the face and the skill to retain your natural expression while removing the signs of aging.

Is Dysport™ Safe?
Yes! Dysport™ has been available in Europe, Asia, and South America for over 10 years. Dysport™ is distributed in the United States by Medicis, the manufacturers of Restylane® and Perlane®, injectable fillers. Dysport™ was developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1990s to successfully treat a number of neurological and ophthalmic conditions. Its use was further expanded to treat a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders, for which it is licensed in over 60 countries.
