Sue Ellen Cox, MD
Dr. Sue Ellen Cox is a dermatologic surgeon and the founding medical director and president of Aesthetic Solutions in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A graduate of New York University, she earned her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Cox completed her Residency in Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and she is board certified in dermatology specializing in surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she teaches a cosmetic dermatology clinic to the third year residents. She is also a supervising physician of the residents in dermatology program at Duke University.
Cosmetic Dermatology
Dr. Cox is one of the most experienced dermatologic surgeons in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, specializing in facial rejuvenation through laser treatments, injectable fillers, Botox®, Dysport® and tumescent liposuction for body contouring. Dr. Cox has a national reputation as a leader in dermatology, lasers and esthetics and over the past 20 years has lectured national and internationally at hundreds of medical meetings teaching her techniques. Dr. Cox has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals and medical books. As a renowned skin care expert, Dr. Cox has served on advisory boards for various corporations and leading health care and pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Cox continues to be voted one of the top ten dermatologists in the state, an annual report compiled by the Best Doctor’s in America a recognition she has maintained since 2005.
Clinical Research
Dr. Cox is actively involved in the evaluation and development of cutting-edge products and devices and has helped to facilitate FDA-approval for many popular cosmetic and dermatologic procedures and treatments available today. Dr. Cox has served as a principal research investigator for nine different Botox® studies and several Dysport® studies including a long-term safety study which has been ongoing since 2005. Dr. Cox has been on the forefront of injectable fillers for facial rejuvenation participating in five injectable filler studies and is currently a principal investigator in a 3-year study for a new injectable filler expected to hit the market late 2012. Dr. Cox contributed to the FDA approval of Latisse® the popular eyelash enhancing product serving as a principal investigator for three Latisse® studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of the product. Other studies include research for non-invasive fat reduction techniques and dermatologic conditions such as rosacea.
Tumescent Liposuction
Dr. Cox is an expert in tumescent liposuction, the most advanced and safe liposuction procedure available, and continues to be involved with ongoing research studies investigating the effectiveness of various liposuction techniques. She is a feature editor for the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and a regular speaker at numerous symposia and meetings throughout the country. Dr. Cox is often published in medical journals on liposuction and has authored the chapter “Violin: Hips, Outer Thigh, and Buttocks” in the book Safe Liposuction and Fat Transfer.
Professional Organizations:
An active Fellow, member, and lecturer for several organizations; including The American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Lasers in Medicine, Dr. Cox served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for 3 years from October 2008 to October 2010.
