John M. Soderberg, MD

Education
Dr. Soderberg graduated from Yale University School of Medicine in 2004 He finished his postgraduate training in 2008 at Duke University where he was a resident in the Division of Dermatology.  Prior to Duke, he spent a year at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven Connecticut, where he received the award of Outstanding Preliminary Resident.  Dr. Soderberg also holds a Master of Public Health Degree from Boston University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology and Zoology from the University of Michigan in 1995.

Dr. Soderberg’s career path has taken a few turns on his way to becoming a dermatologist.  Upon completing his Master’s degree in public health from Boston University he worked as a program director for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, where he ran a study investigating the role of environmental contaminants in breast cancer.  While this was enjoyable to him he found that his work was too far removed from the patients and realized that he really wanted to treat people individually, and hence become a physician.  Dermatology seemed to be a natural fit for Dr. Soderberg having grown up with a father who was a dermatologist himself.  “ Often times during medical school it was the patients who happened to have incidental skin findings that intrigued me the most”, says Dr. Soderberg.  “I eventually came to realize that dermatology was the perfect combination of patient care, age groups, and procedures.”

Dr. Soderberg is a board-certified dermatologist specializing
in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. He enjoys treating dermatologic conditions such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis, skin cancer prevention and treatment.  In addition to his dermatological expertise, Dr. Soderberg has extensive training in laser surgery for both medical and cosmetic treatments. In 2008 Dr. Soderberg was been personally hand-selected by Dr. Cox to join Aesthetic Solutions. Dr. Soderberg’s dermatological expertise enhances our already unique combination of general, cosmetic and surgical dermatology and skin care as well as our world-renowned Clinical Research Center.

More About Dr. Soderberg

Dr. Soderberg is originally from northern Michigan but spent much time in New England.  He lives in Durham with his wife, Kelly, and young children Anelise and twins Parker and Lily. Kelly has a PhD in immunology and works for the Duke Human Vaccination Institute, helping coordinate worldwide research efforts on HIV vaccination.  Dr. Soderberg says he and his family enjoy the area immensely and love being so close to the North Carolina coast.  He also claims one of his favorite things about living in North Carolina are the “winters.” He finds them very easy!
